Earlier this week, our daughter was doing violin scale practice but couldn’t get some of the higher notes correctly in tune. I stopped her to ask why she thought that was, to which she replied slightly frustrated, “Mom, they keep using weird finger patterns, why can’t they just used the ‘normal’ one?”Β  It was more of a complaint than a reply.

Then we had the ‘MOM’ discussion. At the start of MOM’s discussions, prayer for wisdom and understanding is first and foremost. Wisdom for me and understanding for her.

I explained that she had to master scales to be able to play certain types of music and

if she ONLY learned the NORMAL finger patterns, she will always find more advanced pieces, challenging. These ‘weird patterns’ are designed specifically for advanced music playing and once they are learned or mastered, they become NORMAL.

Proverbs 4:7 is one of my favourite Scriptures. It says, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

One of the things which the Holy Spirit revealed through and to me was her approach to that particular scale. She was applying the wrong principles to the wrong piece, expecting the same results as other pieces and getting frustrated because this wasn’t happening.

She did not understand that different fruit trees may require different tilling techniques. You may be able to get away with some but others have a specific tilling process which yields the correct results.

Sometimes, we approach a problem, a decision, a task or an unfamiliarity with a winning strategy that will not work for the current situation/s we face. Sometimes we pray for God to move, which is a winning strategy, but He wants us to speak to that situation or mountain and tell it to move (graduation from asking to commanding). Us asking for His help has its place, but other times we need to understand that we are speaking beings and need to exercise our Authority.

When our daughter recognised/understood that the key signature was a pattern that if learned with the right mind and approach, will make playing all pieces with the same key signature, easier, she adjusted accordingly. Her mind was now adaptive and receptive.

Likewise, when we understand God’s ways, how to approach the instructions He gives us or the importance of putting on our armour daily; that they are there to stop us from toiling or falling into the devil’s pitfalls, then we too will adjust our tactics and operate in the god-given strategies which were already available to us.

That’s awesome. Frustration shows it can come by the lack of understanding.

Sister Cassie! You remind me of my band teacher back in the day. I played clarinet (8 yrs). Whenever anyone thought scales were hard or tedious, he’d smile and make us do more. ☺️ I wish he had a spiritual nugget to say why. ☺️ God wants all of us to mature until we do start looking and acting like how Jesus was when he walked this earth. Just say to the mountain, be thou removed. I’m teaching Jayden to frame his day with his words. Cai is so gifted ( with God-fearing parents as well) and talented. She’s already a master of her craft in Jesus Name! God bless you. πŸ™πŸ½πŸ•ŠπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž
