Where is Your Identity?

Genesis 1:26(a) And God said, Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness.

The Holy Spirit and I have a morning segment which I call, ‘In Convo with the Holy Spirit‘. The framework is pretty much the same; I ask the questions first, then He answers. I would ask Him how He was, He would answer, then ask me the same.

I would answer, then ask, What was on His mind or what He needed me to do. Or what  we would be doing today.

Well, in this morning’s conversation, we didn’t get past the ‘How are you’ question! I asked Him how He was. He replied, “Super Great, how are you?” This is where I am supposed to repeat what He said, about myself, and I usually do, but today, instead of saying, I am super great, Lord, I started dilly-dallying around the answer.

In that moment, my focus was drawn to the two words, ‘super great’. I entertained the thought which said, He is All Mighty! You cannot be the same as the ALL Mighty and Powerful One!

In that moment, the thought that the Almighty was ALL Mighty made me hesitant to see myself as super great and therefore, stopped me from saying what the Holy Spirit wanted me to affirm about myself.

He then said, “Can you see how easy it was for a thought to drag you to a place or position lower than what I called you to? I gave you an identity and you rejected it by thinking less of yourself.

“If you can’t identify as who I say you are, then you will ALWAYS operate in less, give

yourself access to less and eventually, blame me for not being TRUE to my Word.

“In fact, my Word and I are one! Neither my Word nor I, fail, but we are Faithful and True.

“If you operate in less than what I call or give you, you are operating in/from a lie! You have to have faith to believe (act/call yourself) what I give you or who I say You Are! Anything less, is doubt!

“So, let’s start again. How are you, my child?”

‘I am Super Great, my Lord!’ I said with confidence.

You see, when we question what God says about us or who He says we are, it only takes a split second for doubt to be conceived and start bearing fruit. Getting clarity or confirmation has its place, but second guessing is doubt, it will alter the decisions we make.

Psalm 8:3-8, is a good place to anchor our identity.

  1. This is the subject I deal with on a daily basis. I have to unlearn decades of bad habits especially when it comes to how I think about myself, because God has been knocking on my door about this subject for a minute now.
This essay is the most direct lesson I’ve had so far. Beautifully written and powerful

    1. Thank you sister Althea. The Lord will never leave us or forsake us. Proverbs 15:23(b) says, “…and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” and Proverbs 25:11, ” A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Our God is a Good God.

  5. Love that!
I want to start that conversation with the Lord from now on!
How did this conversation unravel to you? Through your thoughts did the Lord speak to you?
I’m still trying to concentrate on his Small still voice.
And does it take faith sometimes to trust He was speaking and not yourself. Because i get that alot.
